I was going deer hunting and decided to use my own hand loaded ammo. I looked at various bullets and decided to try the 150gr SST in my 30-06. Having never used it anywhere but the range while working up a load, I wasn't sure how it would perform.
After shooting my deer, I can tell you I am impressed with the SSTs performance.
I shot my deer at abut 170 yds just behind the right shoulder and the round exited middle of the left shoulder. The deer jumped once on impact ran in a small circle for a second and collapsed within a couple feet of where I shot it.
While field dressing it, I noticed the entrance wound was a nice neat hole as expected and the exit hole was about the size of my thumb. However, the heart was reduced to pulp.
At home, as I was cutting up the deer, I had very little waste around the entrance and exit wounds.
Good job making a great bullet, Hornady.
