Texas Pronghorn

Being a fan of Hornady SST's, i was very interested when the ELD-X line was released. I load them in 6.5, 7mm, and .30 cal, and have found the accuracy to be on par with the best premium target bullets and couldn't wait to see the performance in a hunting situation. It didn't take long to see what the 6.5 143gn would do on a free ranging Texas pronghorn at 300 yds out of a 6.5x284 win. The shot placement was right behind the front shoulder and it went down immediately without taking a step! Upon skinning we found an entrance wound to the rib-cage in excess of 3" in diameter and the lungs were destroyed. The bullet dumped it's energy in the cavity and ended up under the skin on the off side. Not being too concerned as some are with weight retention, i didn't weigh the bullet but it appeared to have about 40% of the original still intact. This is a devastating bullet with great performance! Nicely done Hornady!
