Texas Hill Country Ram Hunt

By Sonny Picone

I have always dreamed of hunting in the South Texas Hill country. Everytime I see the landscape on the hunting channel I long to grab my rifle and head to the Lonestar state. This year I finally got my chance. My Dad surprised me with a Ram hunt in South Texas for my birthday. I knew I would be shooting further than I was used to so I borrowed my brother's 6.5 Creedmoor and grabed a few boxes of 143 grain Precision Hunter to prepare. We set out climbing into a steep cedar thicket at daybreak. After spotting some Rams with bino's I picked the one I was after and we got into a position for a shot. All of my practice paid off and the beautiful black hawian ram dropped in his tracks! This was a hunt I'll never forget.
