Texas Buck

By Ross Neal

January 5, 2018

I shot this nice buck at about 80 yards using an ELD-X 143 grain out of my 6.5 Creedmoor Ruger American Predator rifle. I matched the Hornady factory load with my reload and it is moving at about 2591 fps average from my 22" barrel. The buck was slightly quartering away and I shot him just behind the shoulder, taking out the heart and going through the right shoulder and lodging just under the skin on his right side. He made it about 15 yards before expiring. All of the lead core stayed in the buck (more that likely shattering into pieces) and I recovered only the jacket.
