Spike or no Horns?

I mostly use my .220 Swift which I purchased in 1978, and am very pleased I did. I was standing on a large bolder, overlooking a valley. It was the last day of hunting season (I believe about 1983), and we had seen no deer at all.

I spotted a deer running downhill from left to right, on a high run. It was basically about 1/4 inch tall. I could not tell from looking in my scope, set on 9, (Bushnell Rangefinder,) if it had a spike or no antlers. The range finder had the double cross lines, and the deer fit between them. It was well over 600 yards.

I sited it in, and aimed for the neck. First shot, the deer dropped head over heals. When I got down to it, to gut it out, I saw it was a Two point buck! That is how far it was, unvisable with a setting of 9!

While it was not a huge deer, it was medium sized, and very good eating.

My swift is a 3/4 inch Bull Barrel, and I have never been disapointed. I used Hornady both in reloading and factory loads with 48 - 60 grain slugs.
