Late season 8 point

By Howard

February 10, 2016

It was getting late in the season and I hadn't been able to coax a shooter in close enough for a longbow shot. I decided to take out the .243 with some 100gr Interlock handloads. At the clearing that the stand overlooks I spooked about a half dozen does. Less than 20 minutes after I settled in the stand this nice looking 8 point walked out at 35 yards, broadside... the 100gr Interlock hit exactly where the crosshairs rested, destroyed the pump and airbags. As I watched the forty yard dash I saw the buck foldup!
The ONLY negative is that there was no exit wound. I'm sure it is due to the short shot distance / impact velocity, but having a better chance for blood trail is always a good thing.
