Gramp's Old Savage 99
By Ralph Worden
December 14, 2014
More years ago than I care to think about now, my grandfather gave me his 300 Savage Model 99. Over the years I've used the gun to hunt the woods of New England, but I finally decided to give it a try in Montana. I developed a load using the Special SST 150 grain designed for the 300 Savage. While shots can be quite long in southeastern Montana, this particular deer was less than 150 yards. One shot and not a muscle twitched. Great performance from an older gun and a newer bullet. Thanks for thinking of the 300 with the rotary magazine.
