We have a farm with Fallow Deer running wild here in South Australia and recently my son and I went out to have a look. First time out with the Hornady V-Max , previously using the competitiors ballistic style projectiles.

With not a Deer seen for about three hours two Fallow bucks were spotted at about 500 yards trotting toward the scrub. We moved the ute (pickup) closer for a better shot. At about 180yrds the first Stag hit the ground on the run with a shot to the rear of the head, the second stopped long enought to search for his companion and a follow up shot finished his night.

Both Stags were taken using my Howa M1500 .223 and VMAX 55 gr projectiles and ADI AR2208 powder. Very impressed with the breakup of the projectile on contact with bone causin a massive wound track and instant death.
