.22 250 With Premium and Hornady V-Max Hand Loads

Here I go again abusing paper! What is shown in the picture are six shots with my Remington 700 .22 250 VSS. Three shots were with premium ammunition at 300 yards on the upper right. These three shots were covered by adhesive black dots. The next three shots were at the same distance using my custom hand loaded ammunition using 50 grain Hornady V-Max bullets. It took me about three years of experimentation to determine what my rifle "likes." I settled on V-Max bullets as opposed to A-Max bullets because V-Max are more flexible. I found that A-Max drill straight through groundhogs with little immediate effect.

It looks like the premium ammunition was loaded slower than my hand loads because they were more affected by the wind, coming from my back toward the right, than my hand loads. Unfortunately, one of the premium rounds was loaded "hotter" than the other two cartridges. This is an unfortunate (R) quality control issue. Since the bullet was travelling faster than the other two, it hit higher and was not as much affected by the wind.
