First Place while using Hornady 140Grn ELD Match Ammunition

By Craig Denson

April 18, 2017

On April 1, 2017, I attended my first long range shoot which included two contests. First contest, several targets between 1020 yards to 1760 yards and a 2nd with targets between 200 yards to 900 yards. Before this shoot, I had not shot a rifle past 300 yards. There were over twenty contestants, and I placed 2nd in the 1020-1760 yard contest and I placed 1st in the 200-900 yard contest. I used a factory stock Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor that I recently purchased to perform long distance shooting. The rifle is equipped with a Sig Sauer Tango 4 6-24x50 mm scope, ERA-TAC Adjustable Inclination Mount Harris S-BR Bipod, using factory Hornady 140Grn ELD Match Ammunition 81500. I used a ballistic app for my phone to get the elevation MOA settings.

I hit the mile target 2 times out of 3. Most of the contestants did not hit the mile target.

I had many people come up to me and asked what I was using for ammunition, and they were surprised to find out I was not using reloads, and was using factory Hornady ammunition.
