Early Afternoon Buck

So we had been watching this deer since he was in velvet. I kinda had him already picked out as a nice management buck for myself. So the weekend before the Texas rifle season opened our neighbor called and said they had injured an 8 point with a bow and never found him. Sure enough he was the same deer we had been watching. The wound had already partially healed but we could see some infection. For this reason we knew we had to take him.
Sunday, November the 8th he showed up really early in the morning and then later that same morning but never gave me a clear shot. So we went back out that afternoon and not 30 minutes being in the blind he walks out of the trees where the spring flows out. He went and started making his runs and what not. He started walking toward our oats and gave me the perfect shot. He was perfectly broadside. I put my Winchester model 60 .280 up and lined it up. Time just seemed to slow down. BANG! I took the shot. He ran towards the north and we heard him crash through the trees. I have him 15 minutes to bleed out. Me and my dad went out and found blood but not a lot which was really weird. Sure enough he was down just 40 yards up the hill.
Hornady always seems to do the job. I was shooting the 120 grain vmax with 153 grains of powder behind it. It did exactly what it was supposed to do. It obliterated both lungs and the the Corinth artery of the deer. There is just something about this Comal County Texas deer that I can't get enough of!!
