Coyote hunting with 243 Winchester

The 2016 year was the first year for the state of Indiana that we were aloud to use high powered rifles on private land. This year I had already purchased a Savage Model 10 in 243 Win for coyote hunting. Fuel with 95 grain superformance SST. Since the new law was posted I decided to give it a try.

On November 20th 2016 I was walking out from my stand, and I spotted a small buck about 400 yards out. I couldn't get stable so I was able to move about to about 275 yards. After a few seconds of glassing the deer, I realized that it's one that I've caught on camera. Unfortunately his antlers were not growing and have lost mass and points.

I decided to harvest the animal. I held the crosshairs about 4 inches high of the heart and thats where the round impacted. The deer hunched up and walked into the wood line about 30 feet away. After returning to the house got some help and flashlights. Returned to the spot and started tracking and the blood. It was another 15 feet into the wood line. While field dressing the deer, the lungs were absolutely gone. Fast dispatched of the animal.

I've started shooting Hornady 9 years ago and I'll never use anything else. Thank you Hornady!
