2014 deer season

first I would like to say that I tried to sightmy new 308 in with multiple different brands of ammunition and was getting +1 minute of angle at 100 yards with almost everything I tried. Then I tried the Hornady Superformance 165 grain SST bullet and was getting sub one Moa at 100 yards instantly. That being said I was very happy with my guns performance especially with the ammunition so now I was ready for hunting season.

One thing that I was very happy with out of this ammunition was the extra speed. We all know that the 308 is not the flattest shooting around. On the first weekend of rifle season I went out to fill my muley doe tag and had very good performance from my ammunition. I shot a muley doe at 296 yards and it dropped instantly. I had practiced and gotten consistent out to 400 yards with my rifle and was very happy as this is the longest shot I have taken on an animal.

About three weeks later my buddy Mike wanted to go hunting so we got loaded up on a Sunday after I got off work and headed to the mountains to see if we could scare up some elk As we were out there we saw no elk but saw some very nice bucks so we decided to change our hunt and started pursuing deer. My friend Mike ended up shooting a smaller buck as we were in about 2 1/2 miles. I decided if we were going to have to pack this one out we might as well pack another one out. So we kept looking. We came up to the fence line and checked the GPS to make sure we were still on state land and since both sides of the fence we're still state land we decided to cross. Right after we crossed I looked up and saw two does standing in a field about 1000 yards away. So I sat down and pulled out my binoculars to check the Buckbrush that was right behind them.

Behind them I could see a deer laying in that brush and decided that it was probably a decent buck watching over its does so we dropped into a coolie to see if we can get closer we were able to get within 150 yards of this buck. He had no clue we were there so he stayed in bed and we sat down and waited for him to stand up. We waited probably half an hour before I finally told my buddy Mike to throw a rock over there and I was going to keep my scope on him he threw a rock and didn't even come close. It was a very short throw the buck didn't move so he grabbed another rock and threw it. He almost hit the buck - it stood up and I shot and he dropped. So at this point I am very happy with the performance of my Hornady ammunition: 2 deer both dropped one shot one kill. Who could ask for more!
