12 pt Iowa buck

December 30, 2012

On Dec. 30 2012 (my 25 birthday) my girlfriends' dad and I went out for a little late muzzle loader season. As I was walking in to the box blind I was going to sit in, I peaked a hill into a south wind and saw this buck walking up a terrace. I crouched down and dropped my gear bag to creep up the hill for a clear shot. Set up my bipod on my Savage 10 MLII muzzle loader loaded with the Hornady 300 gr. SST and 45 gr. IMR 4227. The buck stopped quartered away from me on the top side of the terrace and looked back as I squeezed off the round. The buck dropped in its tracks where it stood.

I then used my Leupold RX-1000 rangefinder and determined the buck was 211 yds from me. Gotta love that Hornady!!!!
