Tell us a little about yourself

I’m from Louisiana. I shot my first match in 1976 and I’ve been a pro shooter for Team Smith & Wesson for almost 30 years. I hold five NRA-sanctioned world speed shooting titles and have won hundreds of national and world shooting titles in a wide variety of shooting disciplines.

What age were you when you started shooting and who introduced you to the sport?

I was introduced to action handgun shooting in 1976 by a local shooter named Ben Ashmore.

When did you start shooting competitively and how often do you compete?

Back in 1976. I usually shoot about one local match per month.

What discipline do you specialize in and why?

For 35 years I shot almost exclusively revolver. Over the past seven years I have shot almost exclusively multi-gun.

Jerry Miculek has been shooting competitively for 43 years

What’s been the most valuable lesson you learned from shooting?

The importance of being totally dedicated to achieving your goals.

Do you have any pre-match rituals?

I train on the specific skill sets required for the upcoming match.

What is your preferred handgun set-up?

Smith & Wesson M&P C.O.R.E pistol in 9mm, with a Vortex Venom red dot sight, Mag-Na-Ported barrel and my own trigger job. If required, my iron sight preference is HiViz Litewave sights.

Jerry believes Hornady’s quality is unmatched

What ammunition do you use for competing?

For pistol I reload with Hornady’s 115 gr HAP bullets. For rifle, I shoot 223 with Hornady’s 75 gr BTHP Match for long range and 55 gr for short range.

What has been your proudest achievement in shooting?

The 1997 American Handgunner. It was an 18 stage man-against-man speed shooting competition. It was the first of three times that I won the overall championship shooting a revolver, against the open pistol shooter. The competition was held in Montrose, Colorado. Hundreds of the top speed shooters in the world participated in this match. This win validated my belief that a revolver could win heads up against the most tricked out speed shooting pistols in the world.

What is the best thing about being a Hornady sponsored shooter?

The quality and selection is unmatched. Hornady’s quest to make a perfect bullet has produced the most consistently accurate factory loads and reloading components that I have ever used.
