Castaway Project

On Scotland’s remote Isle of Taransay, six international writers faced a primal challenge—stranded for three days with only what they carried, their survival and meals depended on hunting red deer.

Marooned on an island for 3 days, a group of writers had to hunt to survive.

How would you handle yourself if it all went wrong on a days hunting? Could you look after yourself over a few days and nights if all you had were the things in your pockets? This was the reality arranged for a group of six international writers.

Hunting to became very primeval for the stranded group. Without success they didn’t eat.

The writers all accepted an invitation to visit the Borve Estate on the Isle of Harris and stay at the luxury lodge for a weeks hunting, little did they know they were going to be stranded for 3 days and two nights on the uninhabited island (bar a herd of red deer) named Taransay. This fascinating project tested the writers to the limit mentally and physically but yielded some tremendous results.

Game meat never tasted so good.

Watch this three part ground breaking documentary series to see how the writers coped in this unusual and testing situation.
