5th annual Hornady® Zombies in the Heartland

At the 5th Annual Hornady Zombies in the Heartland event in Grand Island, Nebraska, professional shooters and amateurs alike put their skills to the test in a lively match themed around surviving a zombie pandemic. Read on for highlights from this one-of-a-kind competition…

Professional and amateur shooters survive zombie pandemic at 5th annual Hornady® Zombies in the Heartland

Over 450 zombie hunters armed with handguns, shotguns, and rifles converged in Grand Island, Nebraska, June 3–5, 2016, to battle the “undead” during the 5th annual Zombies in the Heartland 3-Gun Shooting Match hosted by Hornady® and Heartland Public Shooting Park.

Shooters from across the country tested their talent in the match that featured 10 stages and multiple side match stages. Specially developed reactive zombie targets kept everyone engaged and entertained. Participants shot from inside a helicopter, on a fishing boat, while crossing a swinging bridge, while running the bases, and other challenging and unique positions.

The top shooters in each class were:

  • Open: 1st Jerry Miculek, 2nd James Darst, 3rd Ryan Muller
  • Tactical: 1st Taran Butler, 2nd Jacob Betsworth, 3rd Lance Dingler
  • Ladies: 1st Lena Miculek, 2nd Dianna Muller
  • Junior: 1st Kain Klein
  • Senior: 1st Jerry Miculek, 2nd Kurt Miller
  • Super Senior: 1st John Sherlock
