Pine Mtn Buck

Our hunting party of four got drawn for a State Park deer hunt at Pine Mtn. Georgia this past hunting season; arriving a day early to scout for stands and to attend a mandatory hunter's meeting that evening. First morning of the hunt found me on a steep oak covered hilltop with a great view down to a small creek. The rut was on and there was a fresh scrape about 50 yds from my tree stand. At 9AM I could see a deer moving up the hill but could not determine the sex of the animal because of brush screening it. The deer bedded down about 60 yds away and a look through the scope confirmed it was a buck. I waited about 15 mins hoping the deer would get up so I could take a shot, Losing patience, I whistled at him and I took my shot when he stood at the sound. A 130 grn SST from my Ruger No1 in .270 did the job.
