Environmental Specialist

Immediate opening for an experienced Environmental Specialist at Hornady Manufacturing in Grand Island, NE. Environmental Specialist ensures compliance with State and Federal environmental regulations across all Hornady locations.

Essential Functions

Perform or provide assistance for the following:

  • Development, implementation, and maintenance of programs and procedures for packaging, treating, storing, transporting, and disposing of wastes.
  • Prepare various State and Federal permit applications; answer inquiries and provide technical assistance to representatives of State/Federal regulatory agencies.
  • Prepare and submit reports required under permits, or for other purposes (i.e. NPDES, Storm Water, Water Treatment Systems, Hazardous Waste Generator, Hazardous Waste Manifests, Toxic Release Inventories and EPCRA submissions.)
  • Conduct employee training on environmental compliance topics.
  • Development, implementation, and maintenance of a hazard communications program designed to protect employees and environment.
  • Assess available hazardous waste treatment and disposal alternatives.
  • Develop/maintain comprehensive spill prevention programs, review facility plans for spill prevention and lead any spill response efforts.
  • Maintain working knowledge of new technologies developed by the industry and government regulators.
  • Audit facilities on a regular basis for compliance deficiencies.

Ideal candidates will have an Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year College or technical school, with preference given to science degrees, and 1 year of relative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 40-hour HAZWOPER training (with 8-hour annual refresher) and Nebraska Class II IND Waste Water Operator License preferred.
