The .338 Marlin Express Rocks!

I took this bull on September 10 of 2011 in southwest Alaska on the Nushagak River. He came to a series of grunts and scraping noises. It wasn't a large bull (perhaps 800 pounds or so) or a long distance (120 ranged yards) but bullet performance was outstanding. It was essentially a one shot kill; a second shot that turned out to be unnecessary and inconsequential was fired, but he was basically falling down on his first step after the first shot. That shot entered the chest behind the front shoulder and opened up a large wound channel through to the far side.
I am extremely happy with this rifle (Marlin XLR), cartridge and bullet. I am disappointed that Remington has evidently decided to cease producing rifles in this caliber. I do hope that Hornady will have the wisdom to keep the .338 ME fully in their rotation.
Thanks Hornady!
