snow-packed Colorado adventure

I shot two horse-size elk in a cold, snow-packed Colorado adventure this last weekend. This is the only hero pic I have. Thought I'd share. I used a LaRue OBR in .308 equipped with a SureFire brake and fired one shot of Hornady's Superformance at 418 yards. This particular elk was a mercy kill since it had been wounded by another hunter some other time with a shot to the liver. I blew out her heart and lungs and she fell down the side of a steep ridge.
The other elk I got before this one fell at 390 yards located on another ridge with one shot perfect through the heart. I only saw one bull during the whole hunt and it wasn't a legal animal (too young). I have to credit the accuracy of the OBR and the use of the Schmidt's Horus Reticle, a LaRue-equipped Manfrotto carbon fiber tripod and Accuracy 1st's ballistic wheel for the clean shots. It's an incredible set-up.
