My first exotic deer
Posted: Apr 2, 2012
My soon to be father inlaw invited me to his ranch in Rock Springs, Texas to do some clean up and fill the feeders. In appreciation for the labor I provided he offered me some time in a stand. I was estatic and couldn't wait to see what this beautiful land provided. I watched around 20 turkeys and some white tail deer come to the feeder and just set back and enjoyed the show. The next morning I got back in the same stand and enjoyed another show of the turkeys. I called him around 10 am to come pick me up and as soon as I hung the phone up the nice little Axis spike appeared. I harvested it with a Savage 223 using Hornady varmint express 55 grain. The deer ran about 20 yards and collasped.I know its by no means a trophy deer, but its my first exotic and I'm eagerly waiting my return there for future oppertunities.
