My wife drew a late October cow tag in the unit just east of where we live. We got an early start and were unable to make it to our prefered spot. We flipped around and headed to a second choice area and we were into elk from the get go. We glassed a herd of about twenty head bedded in some timber two drainages over. It took us about an hour to get into position. She made an outstanding 200 yard cross canyon shot with her 270 winchester, and the 140 grain boat tail soft point interlock center punched her heart. After the shot 30-40 head of elk filtered out of the timber and milled around, we found the cow 30 yards from where she'd been hit.
