I have been a customer of Hornady Mfg. for years. I load my own ammunition in a variety of calibers. Several years ago I was diagnosed with Glaucoma. More recently I noticed my eye sight getting worse in my shooting eye.
I decided to book a an Elk hunt before my sight goes completely. I own a Remington Model 700, caliber 300 WSM. Using my Hornady manual and Hornady 180 gr SST, I worked up my hunting load.
I was satisfied I had done all I could do and went to the mountains with an outfitter. The morning of day one was uneventful. That afternoon it was cold and the wind was blowing. Another hunter got off a shot at a monster Elk. After a followup shot, he had not put the Elk down. I was asked to put the Elk down if it got up to run. It was about a 150 yard shot for me. When it began to rise again, I took aim and fired. The bullet found it's mark and the bull was dispatched. Needless to say, I was quite impressed with the bullet's performance.
Day 2 found me sitting on a hillside over looking a canyon. Above the canyon I spotted a 5 X 4 Elk moving from right to left halfway up the canyon at a ranged distance of 230 yards. I chose my shooting zone and when the Elk entered. I placed my shot in the vitals area and squeezed of the round. He stagered turned took 1 step and dropped. This bull was harvested with one shot, Thank you for a great product.
