I just want to share my experience from this last week. On a hunting trip with my daughter, I took a nice whitetail buck with my 6.5x284 loaded with the 140 gr A-Max bullet with a muzzle velocity of 3010 fps. The buck was bedded at a distance of 300 yds. and slightly downhill. The bullet entered the front of the neck, just below the throat patch, and traveled down the left backstrap, and stopping about 3-4 inches from the left hind quarter. Almost 30" of total penetration. The bullet was recovered when I was cutting up the meat. Almost no bloodshot, and the bullet retained 53% of it's original weight. Never had a doubt about the bullet taking the deer, but to retain better than half of it's original weight...? I am thoroughly impressed!!!
Thanks guys for continuously filling my freezer. In my opinion, what else is needed?
