Kansas Muzzle Loader Season has come and gone for me. I saw a lot of deer and one really nice buck. On my second day of hunting at 9:00 a.m., I spotted this nice buck out in a milo field. I watched him for about an hour and he never left that little area from where I first saw him. I decided I would just let him be for a while and hope that the wind would come up some. About 2:00 p.m. the wind started to blow a little. So I decided I should try to get out in the field. Moving really slow out to the last place I spotted him. I got all set up and waited for 2 hours, there was no movement or any sight of him, so I decided to move about 50 yards. Waited for about 30 min. and again no signs of him anywhere. I knew he was still out there but I didn't know just where. After the 3rd move, I spotted him 150 yards away. He started working my way so I just hoped he would continue my direction. He milled around for about 15 min. and put his head down. I waited for about 30 min. and then moved over about 50 more yards to the direction where I last saw him. He closed the gap and got within 100 yards. I decided to try to take a shot but I couldn't see much of him or really any of him except part of his antlers. I tried to figure out where his body was and try a shot. Well, I believe the milo stocks absorbed my bullet before it was able to reach the deer. Well, he didn't know were I was at and ran straight at me. He got about 60 yards from me and stopped. I was able to get reloaded and back on him before he knew really where I was. He still was keeping his head down and all I was able to see was the top part of his antlers. I watched him for about another 30 min. I was thinking to myself that the only shot that I will probably have is to shoot him in the neck if he would raise his head up. Well, it turned out that he would never give me this shot. He finally turned and was facing away from me; he raised his head up for the first time. I was able to see the base of his head, so I gave it to him. I shot him in the base of the head with a 300 gr. FPB and that was that. Now the real work began. It was a great hunt and I will remember this one for a very long time.
