Team Hornady® Finishes Strong at Score High Tactical Rifle Challenge

Team Hornady® members Tony Gimmellie and Rob Ormond competed in the Score High Tactical Rifle Challenge, May 12 - 13, 2012. Returning to the famous Founders Ranch in Albuquerque, New Mexico for the second year, the match was a Precision Rifle Series qualifier. Attracting 48 competitors from 13 states, the Sandia Mountains provided a spectacular backdrop for the 20-stage event, which was created by match director Charlie Robertson.

Tony Gimmellie, won first place in both the Military Law Enforcement category and High .308, and finished 13th overall in the main event. Tony noted, “Hornady 308 Superformance 178 grain BTHP in my .308 rifle with a 24-inch barrel, was the ideal round to use at known distance targets out to 600 yards. The extra velocity of the .308 Superformance provides a definite advantage over other brands of factory ammo.”

Rob OrmondTeam Hornady® member Rob Ormond finished sixth overall in the main match, shooting Hornady® 6.5 Creedmoor 140 grain A-MAX® in his rifle. “I can always count on Hornady 6.5 Creedmoor ammo to perform like it should,” Ormond said. “It gives me the confidence I need during matches.”

In addition to their rifles, competitors carried 30-pound Eberlestock-type packs loaded with wind meters, ammunition, binoculars, eyes and ear protection, range finders, and food.

The Score High Tactical Rifle Challenge was created to promote and expand the sport, and offers dedicated core precision rifle competitors challenging stages with multiple shooting positions. Generous industry sponsors produced a $40,000 prize table that gave appreciative competitors a broad choice of products.
