Team Hornady® Scores at the 2012 USPSA Handgun National Championships
Team Hornady® members, Blake Miguez and Jessie Duff relied on Hornady® bullets to win division titles at the recent USPSA Handgun Nationals, where 868 competitors traveled to the Desert Sportsman's Rifle and Pistol Club in Las Vegas, Nevada, a 480-acre range on the mountainous edges of the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.
Blake Miguez (shown above) won the Limited Division with a score of 1934.8636, shooting Hornady® 200 grain FMJ bullets in his .40 caliber pistol. "The feeding reliability and consistent weight at the chrono is important to me," said Miguez, "and Hornady 200 grain bullets provided that confidence factor in such a prestigious match." Miguez fully appreciates the significance of his title win. "This was my first national title, and holding it at the same time as the World title is an amazing feeling," he said.
Defending National Champion, Jessie Duff, won seven stages to take the Ladies Limited Division for the fifth consecutive year. She then turned up the heat with a stunning performance to win her first Ladies Open Division championship, shooting a clean match and winning nine stages. Duff used Hornady® 180 grain XTP® bullets in her 40 S&W pistol for the Limited title, and Hornady® 124 grain XTP® bullets in her 38 Super Comp for the Open Division win.
Duff knows choosing the right bullet is crucial to success. "With numerous tight shots and no-shoots everywhere to ramp up the disaster factor, I needed to know my bullets were going exactly where I put them," she said. "Using Hornady XTPs meant never having to second guess accuracy."
"I felt both matches had very good and challenging stages," Duff added. "Using iron sights elevated the difficulty of the Limited match. Adding more no-shoots to the Open match increased the difficulty equal to an upgrade in guns!"
Both Miguez and Duff are prepping for the 2012 World Steel Challenge, which takes place November 1-4, 2012 at the Universal Shooting Academy in Frostproof, Florida.
